At the end of each year we at practicePRO take a look at what articles, checklists, tips, and other resources had the most downloads. As always, the list contains many resources that remain popular year after year (e.g. our retainer precedents, ILA checklist and e-Discovery reading list).

There were also 15 new additions (the most ever) to the top 40 downloads, which demonstrates that practicePRO is being successful in our goal of producing new content covering the issues that concern lawyers.
Here are some that stand out:

  • Our malpractice claims fact sheets, a new resource for lawyers and CPD providers, jumped right into the top 40. The sheets include claims statistics, causes of claims against lawyers, hot topics in the particular areas of law, tips for avoiding claims and links to practicePRO resources.
  • The Rule 48 toolkit, which provides advice and tools lawyers and law firms can use to lessen the risk of a claim under the new rule 48.14. This toolkit followed a number of articles by LAWPRO aimed at alerting lawyers to the risks of not being aware of the new deadlines. Some of those articles also appeared in the top downloads.
  • LAWPRO has made more effort in recent years to reach out to students and newly called lawyers, in particular with a Student edition of LAWPRO Magazine. The popularity of two articles from that edition (20 steps for a successful student-to-lawyer transition and Job scoop: What do law firms look for?) shows that there is a demand among students for information to help them make the jump into a legal career.
  • Fraud and cybercrime continue to be a major concern to law firms, as evidenced in the continuing popularity of articles from the December 2013 Cybercrime issue of LAWPRO Magazine and our Fraud Fact Sheet.
