Below are the important dates Ontario lawyers should be aware of with regards to their LAWPRO insurance coverage, such transaction levies, renewals and the LAWPRO risk management credit. Watch for additional reminders in your inbox as these dates get closer (and ensure LAWPRO is “whitelisted” in your email inbox settings.

January 31, 2017
Real estate and civil litigation transaction levies and forms are due for the quarter ended December 31, 2016.

February 7, 2017
Lump sum payment of 2017 premium by cheque or pre-authorized bank account withdrawal received on or before this date are eligible for a $50 (per lawyer) early payment discount on the 2017 policy premium (see pg 13 of the 2017 Program Guide for details).

April 30, 2017
Real estate and civil litigation transaction levies and forms are due for the quarter ended March 31, 2017.

April 30, 2017
Exemption forms from lawyers not practising civil litigation or real estate and wanting to exempt themselves from quarterly filings are due.

July 31, 2017
Real estate and civil litigation transaction levies and forms are due for the quarter ended June 30, 2017.

September 15, 2017
File your LAWPRO Risk Management Declaration by this date to qualify for the $50 premium discount on your 2018 premium for each LAWPRO-approved CPD program (to a maximum of $100) completed by this date.

On or about October 2, 2017
LAWPRO online filing of Professional Liability Insurance renewal applications for 2018 is expected to begin. If you wish to file a paper application instead of filing online, please note that paper renewal applications will not be automatically mailed out, but it is expected that you will be able to download a 2018 pre-populated paper renewal application from our website starting on or about October 2, 2017.

October 31, 2017
Real estate and civil litigation transaction levies and forms are due for the quarter ended September 30, 2017.

November 7, 2017
E-filing deadline: Renewal applications filed online on or before November 7 qualify for a $25 per lawyer e-filing discount applied to the 2018 insurance premium.

November 14, 2017
Renewal Application filing deadline: 2018 LAWPRO renewal applications filed after this date will be subject to a surcharge equal to 30 per cent of the base premium.
