LAWPRO is pleased to announce that Convocation of the Law Society of Upper Canada approved its 2015 insurance program for the Ontario Bar. This marks LAWPRO’s 20th anniversary of offering the program.

Strong financial results and a moderating claims count have allowed LAWPRO to hold the base premium for the mandatory insurance program at $3,350 for the fifth consecutive year.

The 2015 LAWPRO insurance program includes the following updates:

  • Certain e-learning courses offered by Homewood Human Solutions through the Law Society’s Member Assistance Program (MAP) will be approved for the LAWPRO Risk Management Credit. These programs address issues including handling stress, managing alcohol and substance consumption, coping with financial pressures, and dealing with working relationships.
  • Paralegal licensees who work in partnership with lawyers are also eligible, as of September 16, 2014, to earn the Risk Management Credit for attending approved Continuing Professional Development programs. This will allow them to save up to $100 on their 2016 premiums.
  • To support consistent and fair coverage, LAWPRO has clarified policy definitions for “employee” and “prescribed penalties”.
  • There is clarification of territorial scope for the work of non-licensee professionals in multidisciplinary partnerships.
